Matt Middleman, M.D.
Founder, CEO

Matt is one of the most experienced leaders in healthcare communications, with a career that spans agency building, clinical medicine, scientific research, and Wall Street. He founded The Health & Science Agency to bring that depth to life sciences and pharmaceutical companies that demand more than traditional communications thinking.

He spent nearly a decade as founder and CEO of LifeSci Communications, building it from the ground up into a global firm that worked with hundreds of life sciences and pharmaceutical companies across every stage of development — having come up through the industry as a VP at Russo Partners, a leading boutique healthcare PR firm. Before communications, Matt spent 15 years as a physician and scientist, holding faculty positions at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center and conducting research in immunology and oncology at the NIH and Mount Sinai. Earlier, he worked as a biotechnology equities analyst, employing a contrarian investor’s approach to evaluating science and pipeline value.

Matt holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Cornell and an M.D. from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. Outside of work, he’s a husband and father of three — and the caretaker of a 12-animal household that keeps things interesting.

Brittany Leigh, Ph.D.
Co-Founder, EVP

Brittany is an Executive Vice President and Founding Partner at THSA who has spent her career making hard science understandable and impossible to ignore. She works closely with leadership teams across the drug development spectrum, from early-stage biotechs defining their scientific story to established pharma organizations managing the full complexity of mature R&D franchises.

Over the course of her career, Brittany has translated novel research into clear, credible narratives bridging corporate communications and medical and scientific communications as new therapies have moved from discovery toward the clinic. The executives she partners with get not just a strategist, but someone who understands their science as well as they do and can help them communicate it with confidence at every stage of the journey.

Prior to THSA, she spent five years at LifeSci Communications in positions of increasing responsibility. Brittany earned her Ph.D. in Biology from the University of South Florida and went on to complete postdoctoral work at Vanderbilt University in genetics and virology. When she’s not deep in the science, she can usually be found outside exploring with her husband, son and pup, rock climbing or buried in a new book.

Jason Braco, Ph.D.
Co-Founder, EVP

Jason is a senior strategic communications advisor whose career sits at the intersection of rigorous science and high-stakes storytelling. He has counseled life sciences executives across every stage of development, helping companies working on some of the most novel approaches in medicine earn the visibility and credibility their science deserves.

Prior to THSA, she spent six years at LifeSci Communications in positions of increasing responsibility across account and media teams. Before his communications career, Jason spent nearly a decade as a research scientist, earning his Ph.D. in Biology from Wake Forest University and completing postdoctoral training at Yale School of Medicine, with a focus on genetics and cellular signaling. That scientific foundation shapes everything about how he works, giving him the fluency to craft narratives that resonate across every channel, from media relations to digital.

Jason thrives with leadership teams that want a genuine strategic partner, whether they are navigating their first major milestone or managing the complexity that comes with maturity. Outside of work, he can usually be found with his daughter and dog somewhere nearby and an audiobook playing in the background.
